Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers. For a full walkthrough of the app, see the Getting Started guide.
General
Is Bunse free?
Yes — the Free plan covers budget, savings, loans and credit tracking, plus investments with your own API key for up to three holdings. The Ignite plan adds unlimited investment updates, statement importing, and the full mortgage module. See Plans for details.
What platforms does Bunse run on?
Bunse currently runs as a web app you can add to your phone's home screen. Native apps aren't available yet.
Does Bunse have a light mode?
Yes — Settings → Appearance lets you switch between the default dark theme and a light one, any time.
Can I use Bunse on more than one device?
Since data is stored locally rather than synced through a server, each device keeps its own copy. To move your data to a new device, export it from the old one and import it on the new one — see Backups & exports.
What is Ask Bunse?
A quick way to ask about your own numbers — pick a question like "How much did I spend on Groceries last month?", fill in the blanks, and get an instant answer worked out from your own data. It's not a chat assistant; see the next question for how it actually works.
Data & privacy
Does Bunse connect to my bank?
No. Bunse has no Open Banking integration and never asks for your online banking credentials. You enter figures directly, or import a statement file you've downloaded yourself. More on this in Security.
Where is my data stored?
On your device, only. Bunse doesn't run a server that holds your financial data, so there's no cloud account for it to live in.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Anything you haven't exported is gone with the device, the same as any other locally-stored data. Export a backup regularly from Settings so you always have a recent copy to restore from.
Does Ask Bunse send my data anywhere?
No. Ask Bunse isn't an AI model and makes no network call — it's a fixed set of question shapes, answered by aggregating data already on your device, the same as every other figure in the app.
Budgeting & imports
How does Bunse handle Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) purchases?
Klarna, Clearpay, PayPal Pay-in-3 and similar repayments — any provider, no fixed list — can be tagged as BNPL from the Suggestions tab. This tracks how you paid, separately from what you bought; the purchase itself still counts as normal spend. A trend only shows up once it's a real pattern, so it won't clutter things for an occasional user.
What are merchant merges?
Some bank exports embed a changing reference — an order number, a masked card digit — directly in the transaction description, so one real merchant can show up as several "different" ones. If Bunse spots this, the Suggestions tab offers to merge them into one, showing every underlying description so you can check before confirming. Merge once and future imports match automatically.
Investments
How do I get live investment prices?
Add a free Alpha Vantage API key in Settings. Full instructions, including the free tier's request limits, are in the Getting Started guide.
Is this financial advice?
No. Bunse is a tracking tool, not a financial adviser. It shows you figures based on what you enter — it doesn't recommend what to buy, sell, or hold. Speak to a qualified financial adviser for advice specific to your circumstances.
Pensions
Does Bunse track my pension?
Yes — add each pot (workplace DC, SIPP, defined benefit) with its balance, and log contributions as you go. Employer contributions are tracked separately from your own, so that figure — normally invisible outside a payslip — actually accumulates somewhere you can see it.
Is the retirement readiness checkpoint financial advice?
No. It compares your current pension total against a commonly-cited UK rule of thumb for pot size by age — a rough checkpoint against today's numbers, not a projection to retirement, and not a recommendation about what to do. Speak to a qualified adviser for a personal retirement plan.
Mortgage & loans
How accurate is the overpayment calculator?
It models your actual mortgage terms — rate, term, and balance — to show interest saved and time cleared early. It's a projection based on the figures you enter, not a substitute for a lender's official redemption statement. Want to try the same calculation without opening the app? There's a free standalone version at bunse.uk/mortgage-overpayment-calculator.
Can Bunse track more than one mortgage or loan?
Yes — add as many loans and mortgage products as you need, each with its own rate, term, and payment history.
Beta & support
Is Bunse finished?
Not yet — it's in beta, so expect the occasional rough edge. None of it should ever cost you real data; exporting a backup before poking at anything unfamiliar is always a safe first move.
How do I report a bug or give feedback?
Email hello@bunse.uk — beta feedback genuinely shapes what gets fixed and built next.
I found a security issue — who do I tell?
Please email hello@bunse.uk directly with details. See Reporting a vulnerability.
