Privacy Policy

Last updated: [date]

Draft — not yet reviewed. This page is a skeleton written to reflect how Bunse actually works today. It has not been reviewed by a legal professional and should not be published or relied on as a final, compliant privacy policy until it has been — particularly for UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 obligations.

Overview

[Placeholder] Bunse ("we", "us") provides a personal finance tracking application. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what your rights are. Bunse is designed so that most of your financial data never reaches us at all — see How local storage works.

Data we collect

We collect a limited amount of technical data to operate and improve the service, such as:

  • Basic device and app version information, for diagnosing bugs
  • During the current beta, and only on the web version of Bunse (bunse.app) if you accept the on-screen banner: anonymous usage analytics — which features get used, not what you enter into them. See Cookies & analytics for exactly what this involves.
  • Information you send us directly, such as an email to hello@bunse.uk

Data we don't collect

We do not collect or store your financial data — balances, transactions, budgets, savings goals, investment holdings, pension pots, loan or mortgage details — on our servers. We have no bank connections and never see your banking credentials.

How local storage works

Everything you enter into Bunse is stored locally, on your own device. There is no central database of user financial data for us to hold, share, or lose. See Security for more detail.

Third-party services

If you choose to add an Alpha Vantage API key for live investment prices, requests using that key go directly from your device to Alpha Vantage and are governed by their own privacy policy, not ours.

During the current beta, if you accept the analytics banner on the web version, Bunse uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand feature usage. This is governed by Google's privacy policy. We've turned off Google Signals (cross-device ad tracking) and set data retention to 2 months, the shortest GA4 allows.

Cookies & analytics

This site (bunse.uk) uses no cookies and no analytics.

The app itself (bunse.app), during the current beta only, shows an on-screen banner offering anonymous usage analytics — which tabs and features get used, so we can see what beta testers are actually doing with the app. If you accept, Google Analytics sets a cookie and we collect events like "Budget tab opened" or "statement imported" — never account balances, transaction amounts, descriptions, merchant names, or anything else you've actually entered. If you decline, nothing loads at all. Either choice is remembered on your device; nothing happens until you decide.

You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Usage analytics in the app — turning it off stops all further tracking immediately, though it can't recall data already sent.

This is explicitly tied to the current web-based beta. Once Bunse moves to primarily native-app distribution, this banner and the analytics behind it will be reviewed and, most likely, removed.

Your rights

[Placeholder] Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or port any personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because most of your data never leaves your device, many of these rights are already exercised by you directly — deleting the app, or using the in-app export, achieves most of what a data request would.

To exercise a right in relation to any data we do hold (such as support emails), contact hello@bunse.uk.

Children

[Placeholder] Bunse is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of [16/18 — confirm]. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Data retention

[Placeholder] Your financial data is retained locally on your device for as long as you keep the app installed, and is removed when you uninstall it or clear its data. Any support correspondence is retained for [period — confirm] for record-keeping purposes.

Where you've accepted the beta analytics banner, that usage data is retained by Google Analytics for 2 months, then automatically deleted.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
